ree

Tim Blake Nelson leads as ‘Bang Bang,’ an eccentric retired pugilist haunted by the past and determined to redeem himself.

Sunrise Films is pleased to announce the U.S. acquisition and upcoming theatrical release of BANG BANG, starring Tim Blake Nelson. Following acclaimed screenings at the Tribeca Film Festival, Locarno Film Festival, Deauville American Film Festival, and Oldenburg Film Festival, the film will open exclusively in select U.S. theaters on September 12, 2025.

In BANG BANG, retired boxer Bernard “Bang Bang” Rozyski (Tim Blake Nelson) finds a renewed sense of purpose when he reconnects with his estranged grandson and begins training him in the very sport that destroyed his life. As the bond between them grows, questions arise about Bang Bang’s true motivations - including from an old flame who witnessed his explosive rise in the 1980s and his bitter rivalry with her cousin, now a formidable political figure and Detroit mayoral candidate, Darnell Washington. Is Bang Bang simply passing down his anger, or is there real redemption in his mentorship?

The film stars Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother, Where Art Thou; Old Henry), Glenn Plummer (Gifted; Imperial Dreams), Kevin Corrigan (The Departed; Goodfellas), Nina Arianda (Being the Ricardos), Andrew Liner (Ransom Canyon), Erica Gimpel (Criminal Minds), and Daniella Pineda (The Accountant 2; Jurassic World: Dominion).

Directed by Vincent Grashaw, written by Will Janowitz, produced by Ran Namerode and Angelia Adzic of Randomix Productions, Cole Payne of Traverse Media, Vincent Grashaw, and Will Janowitz. BANG BANG is a powerful exploration of family, legacy, and second chances, set against the gritty backdrop of Detroit.

Sunrise’s Head of US and International Distribution Andrew Nerger says "With BANG BANG, we were drawn to a powerfully written story filled with emotionally rich characters. Vincent Grashaw has crafted a film that poses a fascinating question: what happens to a larger-than-life athlete when their career ends? Tim Blake Nelson delivers what may be the most powerful performance of his already storied career. We can’t wait to bring this uncompromising, deeply authentic, character-driven film to audiences."

BANG BANG REVIEW

Pamela PerryGoulardt

My name is Bang Bang. “I hunt people.”

Bang Bang has issues. All of them are emotionally resonant and dramatic.

He is a boxing champion chasing demons.

The film is dedicated to Gerald Grashaw, a Golden Gloves Featherweight Champion.

Nothing says Struggle with ‘Everyman’ appeal, like Boxing.

Tim Blake Nelson slips effortlessly into Bang Bang’s wild and abrasive personality.

What environment exemplifies the downfall of the greatest? Detroit, of course.

The movie uses the crumbling structure of a once-great city to emphasize the dehumanization of race and class when there is no way out.

Bang, Bang delivers the struggle.

Estranged from his lesbian daughter, Bang Bang receives a surprise visit when she drops off her son, Jobs, for safekeeping while she takes a job in another city.

Bang Bang has his own agenda. He seeks vengeance on the fighter he holds responsible for taking a dive that put his Boxing brother in a permanent care facility.

He’s not dead, but he’s not alive either.

Bang Bang witnesses his grandson in a take-down. The kid has what it takes to Box.

This could lead to Bang Bang’s comeback to the top.

He used to live a first-class life. If it wasn’t for his raging anger, he wouldn’t be alive.

Bang Bang’s struggles are so exhausting that all he can see are the burdens in front of him.

No need to reveal the plot, you’ve got the concept.

The characters are rich and diverse. Tim Blake Nelson is a Knockout, to say the least.

BANG BANG! The women are all empowered - no character is just for show.

A fast-moving script by Will Jamowitz, with haunting dark visuals and plenty of action, courtesy of Director Vincent Grashaw.

Hope they make the Fabulous Soundtrack into an Album.
