Los Angeles-- Filmmakers Lucy Sandler & Mechi Lakatos are excited to announce that Slamdance will host the West Coast Premiere of their debut film Danny Is My Boyfriend, an absurdist comedy where plans are hatched, loyalties are tested, and nothing was scripted. Danny Is My Boyfriend will screen to its hometown audiences on February 21, 2026 at the DGA Theatre as part of Slamdance, with an encore February 23 at the Landmark Theater.

After discovering they are dating the same man, a recovering codependent living with her mother and a socially awkward babysitter fumble their way through a series of misguided schemes, enlisting a parade of eccentric and unqualified accomplices in a half-baked mission to get revenge.

Fully improvised, Danny Is My Boyfriend is driven by its digressions and misfires, which build into an absurdist comedy of errors that’s funny, tender, and resists expectation.

Tightly-wound Lucy has moved back in with her mother after a breakup so bad it landed her in a psych ward. 'Danny is My Boyfriend', an unscripted, fully improvised film. This is two ladies and their friends wanting to get their hands in the clay. Like Quentin Tarantino says, "If you want to make a movie, MAKE A MOVIE!"

The plot is intriguing and sells itself, a boyfriend has two girlfriends, that can't be food, what happens next? The two main characters. Lucy Sandler and Mechi Lakatos do a great job of engaging the viewer with laughs, good camera work, and passion. This film is a labor of love, and at the same time showcases the film stars as GAMECHANGERS! Filming without a script is Bravery, but also confidence. The goal is to make a move that entertains, and it does. The intuitive and spontaneous approach creates an intimacy with the characters and the audience, highlighting the laughter and the cathartic, more emotional element of the film. The supporting cast sink their teeth into the opportunity of having fun and stretching their acting muscles. The film is infused with the creative spirit and the joy these young filmmakers experience by throwing all caution to the wind and "Just doing it'. It's inspiring. Sitting at my computer watching the VIMEO, I was laughing out loud most of the time. That's what people need right now - laughter, courage, and imagination!
