HAVEN - The Second Novella in the SKYJACK Dystopian Thriller. REVIEW

HAVEN

The second book in a thrilling dystopian series by Lizzie Fry

After reviewing SKYJACK on my blog, I was eager to dive into the next installment, and HAVEN delivers the same pulse-pounding urgency, emotional depth, and cinematic worldbuilding that make this series perfect for adaptation.

SKYJACK

A High-Concept Thriller by Lizzie Fry Available on Amazon.com A Perfect Example of Modern IP

REVIEW – NO SPOILERS

Set in a deserted hotel turned fortress in the English countryside after “The Fall,” a mysterious global catastrophe that wiped out 99% of the female population, SKYJACK drops you straight into a world where survival is brutal, intimate, and deeply uncertain.

No one knows what killed the women. No one knows if it will strike again.

This is a fast-paced, immersive thriller that satisfies both literary readers and fans of visionary, high-concept storytelling.

Maddy, newly 21, is one of the rare surviving young women. Sheltered, restless, and burning with desire, she’s considered strictly off limits as the daughter of Bill, the leader of the soldiers who guard the fort from raiders and black market predators hunting for women.

Narrating in first person, Maddy — nicknamed “Princess” — pulls us into her private world just as an unconscious boy in a failing parachute crashes onto the property. Is he a raider? A trap? A miracle? A threat? Her uncertainty becomes ours.Set in a deserted hotel turned fortress in the English countryside after “The Fall,” a mysterious global catastrophe that wiped out 99% of the female population, SKYJACK drops you straight into a world where survival is brutal, intimate, and deeply uncertain.

REVIEW – NO SPOILERS

HAVEN is an equally gripping, high-velocity read, but this time, the spotlight shifts to Elise, a character who stood out in SKYJACK and now takes center stage with fierce emotional weight. The story world is a single location, a Hospital/Prison

Elise is in her mid-twenties, striking, and the only woman of color in the community. Tough yet terrified, she embodies the duality of survivor and captive. In SKYJACK, we learned she had won the favor of Maddy’s father and given him a son, a detail that becomes even more significant in this installment.

Early in the story, Elise is captured by the Raiders and taken to the Haven, once a hospital, now a high-security prison for women and an incubator for babies, as the Raiders attempt to repopulate the Earth. Labeled a HOST CANDIDATE, she is monitored, controlled, and watched by guards at every door, with constant video surveillance tracking her every move.

Her dream is simple: escape. Her reality is suffocating: the Haven is designed to break hope before it breaks bodies.

The worldbuilding is vivid and chilling, and the characters, both allies and enemies, are drawn with emotional precision. Elise’s fear, resilience, and determination make her a compelling anchor for the story, and the tension never lets up.
