AMC’s critically acclaimed Dark Winds returns February 15 with eight new episodes. The neo-Western crime drama follows Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn and his team as they investigate a missing Navajo girl. The case pulls them out of their reservation and into the dangerous criminal underworld of 1970s Los Angeles.

DARK WINDS stars Zahn McClarnon.
Season 4 adapts Tony Hillerman’s novel The Ghostway from his beloved Leaphorn and Chee mystery series. Star Zahn McClarnon makes his directorial debut this season while continuing his executive producer role. AMC has dropped a full trailer ahead of the premiere, teasing the team’s most perilous investigation yet.
Season 4 centers on a missing Navajo girl who vanishes from her boarding school. The search takes Leaphorn, Chee, and Manuelito from the safety of their reservation into 1970s Los Angeles. They face a race against time to save her from an obsessive killer tied to organized crime.
The season adapts The Ghostway, Hillerman’s sixth Leaphorn and Chee novel, published in 1984. The 1970s-set series continues following the Navajo Tribal Police as they solve murders and mysteries across their territory and beyond.
Season 4 marks the team’s first significant venture beyond the Navajo Nation. The investigation leads them through unfamiliar terrain where they confront powerful crime bosses and deadly survivalists. Their journey begins at a diner filled with bodies before the trail heads west to California.
The trailer hints at personal stakes for the characters. Leaphorn appears separated from his wife, Emma. Meanwhile, Chee and Manuelito’s long-teased romance may finally develop. The case threatens to become their deadliest yet.
Dark Winds boasts executive producers George R.R Martin, Graham Roland, and the late Robert Redford. The production added a Navajo cultural adviser starting in Season 2, following feedback from The Navajo Times about representation and language use.
Dark Winds holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The series found renewed success when Seasons 1-3 arrived on Netflix in October 2025, frequently ranking in the streamer’s Top 10 most-watched shows. Critics have especially praised McClarnon’s performance, with Season 3 reviews calling it his best work yet.
Dark Winds Season 4 premieres Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC.
