Stepping Into My “Guerrilla Marketing” Shoes!
After two years of sending queries and receiving high scores from prestigious Lists and Festivals with no response, I knew it was time to step out of the shadows.
I took Barb Doyon’s (Extreme Screenwriting) course on Guerrilla Marketing.
The concept is bold, stylish, symbolic, and absolutely cinematic! It takes something traditionally rugged (guerrilla- unconventional tactics) and elevates it into a force with an unapologetic presence.
TAKE A LOOK

I'll be taking a screenwriter’s marketing journey through the process.
It’s like waving a magic wand, but there is work to do.
1. Focus on one or two scripts that you consider the most marketable at this time.
I chose “It Happened One Night In Space.” (IHONIS.) A Sci-Fi Comedy Pilot with ten episodes complete, and “The Girl Made Of Earth and Water,”(TGMOE+W) a Mythological Feature, with an Earth-conscious female Hero’s Journey.
2. Craft your short and to-the-point Loglines.
Logline 1: A female Astronaut, on a mission for buried treasure on Mars, is left unconscious when her ship explodes, and a Prince from the Astra Planet, with the same goal, rescues her.
Logline 2: A young girl awakes on a poisoned Earth and travels through the Sun Portal to retrieve the tears of the great Phoenix Bird, which will purify the Earth and its water.
3. Get a referral. I have plenty of referrals for “The Girl Made of Earth and Water.”
I got feedback from Cliff Robinson for “It Happened One Night In Space."
I wanted to share Cliff Robinson’s feedback. It was precisely the kind of feedback a screenwriter needs – Positive, with suggestions for polishing to a high shine.
• Overall Impression
This pilot is fun, bold, and full of imagination. The story creates a bright sci-fi world that feels playful and visual right away. The tone is clear and confident, mixing comedy, family conflict, and space adventure. The script shows strong creative voice and clear series potential.
Concept & World
The idea of royal families from different planets dealing with love, money, and power is fresh and easy to understand. The rescue of a mysterious woman from space is a strong opening that pushes the story forward. The planets feel different from each other, and the settings are easy to picture.
Characters
Prince Libro is a likable lead. His struggle between duty and personal choice gives the story heart. The Martian family is funny and well defined, with clear goals and strong personalities. Hokulani works well as a mystery character and gives the pilot an engine for future episodes. Dobu stands out as kind and relatable.
Dialogue & Tone
The dialogue fits the world and stays consistent in tone. The humor comes from character behavior, which works well. Each character sounds different, making scenes easy to follow.
Structure & Pacing
The pilot moves fast and introduces conflict early. Scenes flow smoothly, and the ending sets up new problems that make you want to watch the next episode.
Suggestions for Improvement
One quiet moment for Prince Libro could deepen his emotional journey.
A small hint about Hokulani’s past could raise curiosity.
Giving Dobu a small success in the pilot could strengthen his role.
Clearer stakes around the failed marriage could add tension.
Trimming occasional exposition-heavy lines could keep scenes moving at maximum pace.
• Final Note
This is a creative, confident pilot with strong visuals and a clear voice. With small refinements, it could become a very engaging and original sci-fi series.
Adjustments being made! Thank you, Cliff!
