(Los Angeles, CA) – alt-R&B auteur Casper Sage welcomes listeners into his lushly drawn, one-of-one world with PATINA, out now via Warner Records. The seven-song EP feels invitingly intimate and handmade, capturing the rare gifts of the Oklahoma-born, Nashville-based singer, songwriter, producer, and player. The project arrives alongside a striking visualizer for the song “Arthur” featuring DERBY. Watch HERE and stream PATINA HERE.
Sage wrote PATINA during, and after the dissolution of, the most significant relationship of his young life — a period when romantic connection and uncertainty compounded into a growing awareness of time’s fleeting nature. Rather than let that paralyze him, he documented the flux with absolute honesty, preserving his feelings before they could fade. That practice was healing, it turned out, allowing him to see the past as information that guides him to a better future.
As Sage now explains, this song cycle grew to represent something more universal:

“PATINA is about aging tastefully. PATINA is a positive reframe of the existential dread that comes with getting older. The war on nostalgia. Sun-fade on your favorite jeans is PATINA. Old couples with young love is PATINA. A newfound meaning in an old tattoo is PATINA. Finding a space for your inner child in your adult life is PATINA. It’s what lasts the test of time.”
“Arthur” embodies that in multiple ways. Bursting with the kind of raw, ’80s-inflected R&B sound that, these days, connects Bon Iver to Justin Bieber — the track brings welcome light to what could’ve been a dark memory. He also honors that inner child with a title that references a certain cartoon aardvark’s famous clenched paws. DERBY’s bleary, confessional verse is the perfect complement.
Sage steadily built anticipation for PATINA over a series of captivating singles including April’s “Change Your Mind,” which Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Fresh Picks column called, “A breezy cut that simultaneously recalls Frank Ocean’s Blonde and the most boisterous of ’80s melodic flourishes.” Before that, VICE dubbed “i’m dying to feel alive again” “an absolute masterpiece … a song that grabs you and doesn’t let go,” while EARMILK described the era-opening “bits + pieces” as an “elevated R&B banger [that] turns the act of letting go into something beautiful.”
PATINA’s collection of songs are the 24-year-old’s first since he released his beloved 2025 EP SAGEhaven, which included the soul-searching singles “Roadrunner” featuring midwxst and “NuDivision” with Amindi.
With PATINA, Sage reminds us what a joy it is to hear that sound as it continues to expand, evolve, and — as he might put it — age tastefully.
ABOUT CASPER SAGE
Nashville alt-R&B artist Casper Sage is at war with nostalgia. The singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist makes lush, introspective songs topped by vocals that move smoothly between a delicate falsetto and a soulful belt. Deploying fuzzed-out guitars, rippling synths, and layered percussion, he creates the kind of raw and living sound that’s been reshaping pop radio and critics’ playlists lately. And yet, with his latest project PATINA, he’s still learning to let go — serving up “an authentic capsule of a moment” he knew would change him for life, and bringing us along as he transmutes beauty and pain alike into communal connection. Getting lost and found through sound is an artform Sage perfected growing up in OKC, where boredom became a powerful driver for creativity. He turned to the internet as a teen, following YouTube’s algorithm down countless rabbit holes of sonic discovery and, eventually, teaching himself how to make his own music via piano and guitar tutorials. He expanded his sound across DIY EPs — from 2019’s Winter through 2023’s Synthesis+ — while honing his approach as a student at Belmont University in Nashville. But 2025’s SAGEhaven EP was a turning point: he found his voice amid soul-searching cuts like “Roadrunner” ft. midwxst and “NuDivision” ft. Amindi. Now, Sage moves firmly into the future with a widescreen expansion of his songcraft, where dynamic instrumentation and radical reflection combine into music as dreamy as it is undeniable.
